General SQL setup question...

Dear All,

I am now totally confused and would like the help of the group. I have a SQL Server (2008 R2) called ABC-SQL (not named instance).

[1] When I log onto the management console on the server and use windows pass through connection, I can access all the objects as my domain admin account is a sysadmin in the database.

[2] When I connect with a DSN I cannot connect with TCP/IP, only a named pipe of the same as the server ABC-SQL.

[3] When I try to add a connection in a VB.NET application and try and use the name ABC-SQL it fails to see any objects.

What can I do so the server instance (ABC-SQL) is ‘discoverable’ in the normal way, so I can connect to it through ODBC or VB.NET applications?

The SQL server is not in production so I can easily make any changes suggested.

Thanks again.
