Transactional Log file is increasing sustantially

Hi All,

I have installed SQL Server 2008 R2 in our production environment and facing an storage issue as the log file is consuming upto 165GB of data.How can i know if i can purge the logfile or not as its production and we have not seen any such issue in our testing environments where we installed SQL server 2008 R2.

I checked the log_reuse_wait_desc,log_reuse_wait for the database whose log file was huge and found the status for log_reuse_wait_desc as  "LOG_BACKUP" and  log_reuse_wait as  '2'

Can anyone help me out what shall i do in such scenarios.
