no dba ability, working on basic home laptop. Need to practice ETL and query writing. How can I get an environment that I can do this?

HI,

I used to use SQL for data migration and reporting task extensively 10 years ago.  Kids have got in the way and smaller companies have limited me to access and Excel.  I can get interviews for SQL jobs but am struggling in technical test as I am having to figure out new screen layouts and rusty so cannot create scripts quickly.

How can I create a simple environment to bring my skills up to date?  I would like something for SQL server similar to the Northwind database that exists for Access.  I only have an old lap top to work from and no DBA skills to set up servers.

I have already downloaded SQL server, but can't connect to a server as I don't have one.  I have tried to create a database in Azure in case this technology would help me, but can't see that I can access the functionality in SQL Server to practice.  I'd love to find an on line playable demo used to train people in query writing and not need to set up a whole infrastructure.

Thanks

Helen

PS I know I asked this yesterday and didn't really get a sensible answer, but have been directed back here by people at microsoft as they are claiming that there is no support from them in doing this!!!
